In the Present Simple every person uses the base verb except he/she/it, which adds -s (work → works). Verbs ending in -s, -sh, -ch, -x or -o add -es (watches, goes); consonant + y turns into -ies (studies). Three verbs are irregular: be → is, have → has, do → does. Losing this -s is the most common beginner mistake in English.

When to use it

Habits and routines (he/she/it)
She works in a hospital. She works in a hospital.
General facts
